Physical Characteristics
Length, 24-45 in. (61-115 cm).  The Texas Coral Snake is a brilliantly colored, glossy, slender snake.  It is marked the entire length by alternating black and red rings which are separated by much narrower yellow rings (yellow-black-yellow-red-yellow).  The red rings frequently have varying amounts of black speckling.  The head is blunt and only barley wider than the body.      
 
Geographic Range (USA, México)
Southern Arkansas and western Louisiana across the southeastern half of Texas in the United States into eastern Coahuila and northern Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas Mexico. 
 
Habitat
Can be found in a variety of habitats from hardwood and pine forests, prairie, woodlands, and subtropical forest. 
 
Diet
Various species of snakes and small lizards. 
 
Venom
Contains a powerful neurotoxic component resulting in paralysis of the muscles of swallowing and respiration.
 
Remarks
Coral Snakes will try to hide or escape when encountered.  However, if restrained they are quick to bite, hold on and chew.
