Physical Characteristics |
Length, 15-32 in. (38-82 cm). The background color can vary greatly and frequently resembles the surrounding rocks. Color ranges include various shades of grey, tan, rust, and pink. The narrow somewhat serrated crossbands are usually brown, grey or black and extend the length of the body to the tail. There is a variable amount of dark speckling between the crossbands. |

| Southeastern Arizona, southwestern New Mexico, and extreme western Texas (El Paso area) (USA) southward into the Mexican states of Sonora, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Durango, Nayarit, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, and Jalisco. |

| Habitat |
| A predominantly montaine snake found in arid or semiarid rocky areas along hillsides and arroyos. Can be found from 300 to 2900 m. |

| Frogs, snakes, lizards, and small mammals. |

| Hemorrhagins are the predominant toxins. |

| Remarks |
| Rock Rattlesnakes are relative inoffensive and will usually lie motionless until agitated. Once provoked they try to seek safety in the nearest rock shelter. |
